Conservation of the roof of one of the wings of the New Athos Monastery

In the north-west side of the New Athos Monastery, there is a one-story wing in the utility yard. The wing is made of limestone, the internal partitions are made of bricks of the monastery firing. The roof was originally covered with tiles made in Marseilles (in Soviet times, the tiles were partially destroyed).

Since 1994 after the revival of monastic life in the New Athos monastery, this wing has been used as a pilgrimage hotel. In the early 2000s, due to the dilapidated roof, the wing became unsuitable for pilgrims.

In May 2021, the leadership of the New Athos Monastery decided to dismantle the dilapidated roof and replace it with a conservation roof covering. The works were completed in June 2021. A metal roof covering was used as a temporary conservation roof.
