In the Appendix there are pre-revolutionary and modern photographs of churches and other shrines of Abkhazia. Johann Gotthilf Stritter was a writer and historian, he worked in St. Petersburg in the late of 18th century. He was invited by Empress Catherine II. Translated excerpts: Avasgica, Apsilica and Misimianica are the chapters from 4 volumes written by Stritter. He collected information from the works of ancient and Byzantine writers about the peoples inhabiting the southern outskirts of the Russian Empire and the adjacent countries and territories.
