Feast of St.Great-Martyr Panteleimon in New Athos

According to sanitary rules, in order to avoid crowds in the cathedral church, the Great Vespers with litany was performed on the evening of 8 August. In the morning of 9 August, at 6:00 am, the solemn Matins began with a water-blessing prayer service, then the Divine Liturgy and Litany took place (a procession with the miraculous icon of St. Panteleimon around the Cathedral Church inside the monastery).

Due to quarantine restrictions, instead of a festive meal, pilgrims and parishioners were treated to traditional cheese pies (ачашә) in the courtyard of the monastery.

In the New Athos Monastery, the memory of two patron saints is solemnly celebrated – the holy Apostle Simon the Canaanite (23 May) and the holy Great-Martyr Panteleimon (9 August).
