Restoration work has begun in the New Athos Monastery

Since the beginning of September 2022, on the initiative and with the blessing of Hierodeacon David (Sarsaniya), the abbot of the New Athos Monastery, restoration work has been carried out in the cathedral church of the monastery of St. Panteleimon.

In connection with the reconstruction of the iconostasis in the aisle of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, which is financed by a Russian businessman of Abkhaz origin G.V. Shonia, there was a need for restoration work, as well as in the cathedral church.

The colorful layer and primer are currently being strengthened. Surface contamination is removed from the painting, and clearing is carried out in areas with old recordings. In places of loss, restoration primer is used, which is then tinted.

All works are carried out by certified restorers who graduated from the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. named after I.E. Repin and St. Petersburg Art College of N.K. Roerich. The team of specialists has extensive experience in working at cultural heritage sites, as well as in state museums of Russia.
