On May 6, 2018 Divine Liturgy was held in the side-chapel of St. George in the central cathedral of the New Athos monastery. The divine service was headed by Archimandrite Dorotheos (Dbar). After the Liturgy, parishioners and pilgrims went to the village of Ankhua where the ancient church of St. George (Аиергь-ныха) is situated and water-blessing moleben was served.
After the moleben, the prayer of St. George (Аиергь-ныҳәа) according to the Abkhazian Christian tradition was served. After the prayers, all people were invited to a traditional festive meal.
A week before the memory-day of St. George by the Holy Metropolis of Abkhazia, led by Archimandrite Dorotheos (Dbar), the clearing of the church’s ruins and its surrounding area was continued. As a result, from the location of the church of St. George in the village of Ankhua one can see the Anakopia mountain, Skete of St. John the Baptist and other historical monuments in Ankhua.
In addition, road signs have been erected for the above-listed monuments of historical and cultural heritage.
On the walls of the Skete of St. John the Baptist was also erected a sign.
